McCLAY POST Commander Jim Fellow Veterans and Members
I would like to thank you for your vote of confidence in electing me as your new commander. I have always been proud and supportive of the VFW by serving on the Honor Guard, Council of Administration and many special events as well as other areas where needed. We all should be very proud of our post and it’s successes, are due to all the hard work our volunteers have done. Thank you to each and every one of you that volunteered this past year and previous years. This is a New Year and we need volunteers for our events. If you would like to get involved contact President Lois Hagstrom, of the Ladies Auxiliary, President Tom Tisthammer, of the Men’s Auxiliary, or myself. Looking forward to seeing all our regular volunteers and hopefully some new ones. Remember if want to have some fun come join us. I have some good news we may have a local restaurant owner interested in leasing out our kitchen. Nothing definite yet we are still in negotiations. Will keep you informed of our progress. The 91st VFW State Convention was held 18,19&20 June. It was the 1st State Convention I have attended. I found it informative and interesting. At the Convention our Past Commander Doug Doerfler and present Quartermaster Tom Tweet received their All State White Covers. Congratulations Doug & Tom. A special thanks to past Commander Doug Doefler for all the support he has given me, also would like to thank each and everyone of you that has help me this past year. Looking forward to working with Lois Hagstrom Ladies Auxiliary, Tom Tisthammer Men’s Auxiliary and Terry Selle with the American Legion. I’m sure with all of us working together we will have a great year. If you have concerns or ideas and possible solutions for the betterment of the post feel free to come talk to me. MOCA MOCA PUP TENT 51 Our Auxiliary is looking for new members that are interested in volunteering in Hospitals and nursing homes, most of our volunteering is to help the many sick and wounded soldiers and Veterans. In the State of Minnesota we have two VA Hospitals, one in Minneapolis and one in St. Cloud, we also visit and donate to the Fargo VA and Sioux Falls VA hospitals. There are 5 Veterans Homes in Minnesota, Minneapolis, Hastings, Silver Bay, Fergus Falls and Luverne. Volunteers are needed to help raise money by bake sales, dinners and other activities to help ‘keep em smiling in beds of white’. At the hospitals some of the things we do are visitation, coffee cart, games, Bingo etc. there are also regular scheduled volunteers, these are members that do regular assigned duties on a weekly or monthly schedule. Lois Hagstrom, Barb Brewer, Opel Swanson & other Ladies Auxiliary members asked me if I would place an advertisement in this issue of the McClay Post for their upcoming “Topless Car Wash”. Like you my first thought was I wonder what this is all about. I asked them what the deal was, but they just displayed a coy smile and said that I would find out. Well this should bring out a crowd.
In addition to the Topless Car Wash, the annual Post Picnic will take place on the 14th of August [see advertisement this publication]. There are some potential major changes in the way food is provided at your club. When a decision is made information will be placed on the Posts web site. The web site address is www.vfwem1296.org Any changes will also be explained in the next issue of the McClay Post.
As we all know Summers in Minnesota are way too short, so come on down to your club and enjoy an adult beverage alfresco on the Patio. If you haven't been around for awhile check it out. Dave Eckberg Canteen Manager
